Impressive encounter

While preparing my team of skiers for another day on the hill I was curious to see a couple walk past me and snap on their "skinny" skate skis. These two were obviously on a mission. Their skins were already mounted as they simply walked out to Fanny Hill, dropped their skis and prepared for their ascent. Since they were standing right next to me I couldn't help to overhear what the man said to his partner before starting off. "Ok last one." This peaked my curiosity even more and begged the question.

December Snow

What a Weekend!

This past weekend had to have been one of the best weekends Snowmass has ever seen. The snow conditions are super and the powder is deep. Snow on Thursday night and Friday postponed the Women's World Cup Downhill on Friday and cancelled school for the valley kids. They were able to run the downhill on Saturday just before it started snowing again. Saturday night we kicked off the season with the first Bud Hi FI concert featuring Blues Traveler. And wow what a party and show it was!

New Snow!

Summit For Life 07Santa came a little early to the Elk Mountains. His gift, 35" of new snow in the past 48 hours. Both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass are skiing to perfection. And for sure there was thigh deep snow in places on both mountains this weekend. Skied Snowmass yesterday with the family then hiked Aspen Mountain last night for Chris Klug's annual Summit for Life event. It was amazing and there were some strong and fast people hiking last night. Chris is the first athlete ever to win an Olympic medal after successful organ transplant surgery.

Happy Thanksgiving

What a great Thanksgiving Weekend it has started out to be. Even though our snow pack has been limited our snowmakers have been diligent in their efforts to make snow. With the cold temperatures and some help from Mother Nature Snowmass and Aspen Mountain were able to open for the season on Thanksgiving Day.

It's snowing & the forecast is looking good!

A winter storm rolled through Snowmass dumping up to eight inches of snow on the slopes. Hunters in the area reported more than a foot of snow in some backcountry locations. Snowmass reported eight inches of snow while Aspen Mountain received six inches at the 11,212 foot summit. The forecast is calling for another storm to roll through next week.
Mark your calendars as Snowmass and Aspen Mountain are scheduled to open on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22.
